Post of the day.

Is here. An excerpt:

Thomas Sowell has a great review of a book by Adam Hochschild called Bury the Chains.

Sowell says:
The anti-slavery movement was spearheaded by people who would today be called "the religious right" and its organization was created by conservative businessmen. Moreover, what destroyed slavery in the non-Western world was Western imperialism.

Nothing could be more jolting and discordant with the vision of today's intellectuals than the fact that it was businessmen, devout religious leaders and Western imperialists who together destroyed slavery around the world. And if it doesn't fit their vision, it is the same to them as if it never happened.

Read the entire thing. I've never understood Black Muslims, because of the above, which is entirely true. Mohammed was a wealthy man because he was a slave trader. Arab Muslims bought and sold Africans long before Christians started to, and long after Christians stopped. And yet Black Muslims turned away from the religion that ended chattel slavery, towards a religion that legitimizes it.
